Featured Paint: New Gamboge from Daniel Smith
By Michael
New Gamboge from Daniel Smith, the featured watercolor paint of the week, can be found at the following link on ArtOrgTool. Made of pigments PY 97 and PY 110, the Daniel Smith product page states; “It’s a transparent organic pigment from the yellow to orange zone of your color wheel. More staining than Yellow Ochre and equal in tinting ability to Raw Sienna.”
The watercolor swatch above, used for the reference HSL analysis, produced a range of hues from 26 to 51 after being scanned and analysised by the ArtOrgTool algorithm. The two graphs below show the filtered HSL values used to determine the reference HSL. The top graph shows the number of pixels scanned of each hue (41 being the highest with 3900 pixels). The lower graph shows the range of saturation for each hue with 1.0 (or 100%) at the top and 0 at the bottom. In the case of the analysised swatch above, hue 28 has the highest saturation range of 0.40 to 1.0. The final analysis resulted in a reference HSL of 37, 0.96, 0.68.
More information about the reference HSL can be found in the following post, titled Refining reference HSL value for swatch.
